The Trees4Business campaign also contributes towards the social environment, working with a charity called the Challenger Trust. The trust draws from local schools, giving children the opportunity to go camping, rock-climbing, complete nature studies and of course, tree planting in the Alladale reserve, Scotland.

Why Alladale?

Tree planting plays a key part of the vision to return the Highland Glens to their former glory. This challenge set by Philanthropist Paul Lister has already seen 100,000 trees planted, with a commitment to plant 20,000 more via the Carbon Managers, Trees4Business campaign. En Route are proud to be a Tree100 company, and look forward to our continued support of the scheme.

After a 3 ½ hour delay we boarded our flight in a somber mood. Expecting to have to settle for a sandwich we were delighted to find your product (Mexican Beef and Bean Chilli) available. It was superb! Far above our expectations, thank you for making our journey home a far better experience than expected!

-L. Schofield

My husband and I treated ourselves to a short stay in Sheffield, travelling by train. On the outward journey, along with our coffee, we were served with a pack of two chocolate macaroons. They were absolutely scrumptious!

We enjoyed our visit, especially to Chatsworth House and Gardens. Really didn’t want to return home yesterday – but were somewhat cheered up to find the macaroons on offer again on the homeward train.

Just wanted to say a big thank you.

Following a successful transition from foil to bio-degradable and recyclable cardboard packaging for all our on-board meals, En Route is taking its commitments one step further by registering as a carbon conscious company.

This year En Route have planted 100 trees in the Alladale Wilderness Reserve, Scotland, through the ‘Trees4Businesses’ campaign with The Carbon Managers Ltd.

All trees planted contribute towards the protection of the Ancient Caledonian Forest and help to re-establish populations of endangered wildlife.

We also obtain cardboard from a sustainable source, with 5 trees planted for every 1 that is cut down.

The latest addition to our yum.me range is the Mexican Beef and Bean Chilli made with rich tomatoes, garlic, cumin and red kidney beans.

As with all yum.me dishes, the Chilli has been made using carefully selected ingredients and is traditionally slow cooked to provide an authentic taste of home cooking.

Not only is the dish made with simple natural ingredients, it is also simple to store and use. It has been sealed in air-tight trays and does not need to be refrigerated, making it a quick easy dish to serve as and when required.

Even though the dish is ambient, it still follows the En Route ‘no nasties’ policy which means absolutely no preservatives or funny business.

“We are very excited about the latest addition to our yum.me range. The dish offers simplicity in both in its traditional recipe and its ease of use for crew, without compromising on great taste and quality of ingredients.” –Tracy Kellett, Sales Director

You can also visit our dedicated yum.me website www.yumme.co.uk

It seems diners at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport will certainly get their “five-a-day”. That’s because the vegetables and herbs used at some airport restaurants are being grown in a garden at Terminal 3. It’s believed to be the world’s first airport aeroponic garden – a method that uses air or mist to grow plants instead of earth. More than 40 types of vegetable, including lettuce, habanero peppers, Swiss chard, green beans and herbs such as sweet basil will be harvested and served by restaurants such as Tuscany, Blackhawks Restaurant and Wicker Park Seafood & Sushi.

One Olympic race is already won. British Airways (BA) has at last named the chef who has landed the job of creating its London 2012 Olympic menu. Simon Hulstone, head chef at the Michelin-starred Elephant in Torquay, Devon, beat hundreds of hopefuls to become BA’s “Great Briton” in the food category.

His task now is to create a British menu inspired by the London 2012 Games with one-on-one guidance from überchef Heston Blumenthal and the financial clout of the airline. Hulstone’s inspirational menu will hit the skies between March and September next year when it will be served in all cabins to millions of BA passengers.

Stand-by for 21 August when British Airways announces the winner of its 2012 London Olympics’ inflight menu. The airline promises that the successful menu will “whet the world’s appetite for the very best of British cuisine”. Preparations will get off to a flying start as celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal is set to work alongside the winning candidate, sourcing top ingredients. The menu will then be served on all BA long-haul flights in and out of London in the run up to and during the Games. Let’s face it, whatever Blighty’s chances are at the Olympics, the future certainly looks Gold for this lucky chef.

A mini version of the Café Rouge brasserie brand is to be rolled out across UK train stations following a successful pilot at Euston station.

With just 50 seats, Café Rouge Express outlets will be smaller than the usual high street restaurants. And unlike the Café Rouges that are already in airports, these new fast-service outlets will operate a takeaway service and won’t require waiters.

Air, rail or sea, travel industry trends tend to move fast and this is one that could definitely have legs …
