At En Route, we believe that investing in our workforce, whether through in-person, virtual or practical training, is one of the most important things we can do as a business.
Encouraging our teams to develop and grow their skills and expertise not only benefits En Route as a business (and by extension, our customers), but it also helps build a sense of self-confidence, self-belief and agency within the individuals themselves, and is a crucial element of their personal development.
Shaping high performers across every region
One of the ways that we invest in our employees is through our bespoke High Performing Team (HPT) training course.
Every one of our new starters undergoes HPT training within their first three months of starting at En Route. No matter which region they work out of – UK, UAE, US or APAC – they’ll join a group of fellow new starters at our Windsor HQ and undertake the two-day course at an off-site location.
HPT offers colleagues the chance to get to know other new starters – often from different functions which really helps them build connections with other teams from very early on – all the while exploring the best ways of working together at En Route. Through a mix of individual and group tasks, the course encourages people to work collaboratively, take ownership of their work, and feel confident sharing constructive feedback in an open environment.
Offering valuable insight into how En Route operates, HPT highlights how different functions work together to become global specialists in passenger solutions, supply chain services and sourcing for airlines and airline caterers.
How HPT has evolved for En Route
First introduced by En Route’s Managing Director, Nick Wiley, HPT has been a part of our investment in people strategy for over four years, and during that time, the core message remains: teams that work closely and support each other achieve far more than people working on their own.
Our small but meaningful apprenticeship journey
Alongside HPT, we’ve also provided support to a number of team members throughout the years to help them further their career with En Route. Whether it’s an apprenticeship, industry specific qualification or wider training course, it’s great to witness the growth in confidence and capability that this investment has on our team.
Here are some recent highlights:
Gemma Gwilliams, Receptionist & People Assistant
Gemma, who has worked at En Route for three years completed her apprenticeship in HR Support in 2024 being awarded a Pass.
Says Gemma, “En Route was extremely supportive throughout my apprenticeship. I was allocated time each week to focus on my studies, and was also granted one working-from-home day a week which was extremely helpful as my role normally requires me to be present in the office five days per week.”
“It has also helped me grow my knowledge on all the different aspects of HR and enabled me to deal effectively and confidently with queries at work, making me more independent!”
Kevin Ninan, Pricing Analyst:
In May 2025, Pricing Analyst Kevin, began studying for the Charted Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), which is set to conclude in January 2028.
Through this qualification, Kevin is hoping to strengthen his technical and strategic financial knowledge. It is helping him think beyond the day-to-day and provides a new viewpoint with wider awareness to help him become more commercially aligned with our senior stakeholders. As a Pricing Analyst, he is hoping that the modules centred around costing structure and price modelling will create an even more cohesive system for all.
Kevin said, “Doing this course has been both challenging and rewarding. Initially En Route was there to assist with all the admin, and my line manager has been very supportive throughout, from the initial push to do the course, to now, checking in with me in regular intervals to make sure that I am not falling behind on work or my studies. It has also been very helpful that En Route has provided me with dedicated time off to complete any coursework or revision, helping me balance my workload with my studying.”
Lauren Casbierd, Food Development Apprentice:
Lauren joined the NPD team in February 2025 and began a two-year apprenticeship in Food Development in May 2025.
As Lauren is working on her apprenticeship alongside her role at En Route, we are committed to ensuring 20% of Lauren’s time is dedicated to off-the-job learning. When working within the NPD team, Lauren receives vital guidance from her experienced colleagues whilst also being presented with a multitude of opportunities to put her new skills into action.
She says, “I have found the apprenticeship to be a very valuable and rewarding experience. It has allowed me to develop skills I didn’t even know I had, whilst also applying what I have learnt directly to my role. I have sometimes lacked in confidence, but after not even a year of working at En Route and starting my apprenticeship, I have noticed a massive shift in both my happiness and my confidence.”
Kane Brady, Procurement Assistant:
Kane started his Level 4 Diploma in Procurement & Supply with the Charted Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) in February. This diploma is the first professional qualification level within the CIPS framework and offers a stronger understanding of end-to-end procurement and supply chain principles. Throughout the course Kane will learn more about the sourcing and tendering process, contract and supplier management, the legislative and ethical requirements within procurement, and many other key areas, that are sure to support him through his job.
Through his own research and want for personal development, Kane worked alongside En Route to be able to be a part of this course. This diploma will help strengthen his understanding of core procurement and supply chain processes, help him within his day-to-day work and strengthen the knowledge and understanding of the procurement team at En Route.
When asked about how En Route has supported him through this process he said, “En Route has been very supportive throughout this process, and the company’s commitment to learning and development was one of the key reasons I was keen to join. This qualification will allow me to build on that support, formalise my knowledge, and continue progressing within the function.”
